NTSA Land Acquisition 

 The BOD wants to get some feedback from the NTSA remembers concerning the future of our club. Below is some information regarding possible expansion/relocation of NTSA.

 Please take some time to familiarize yourself with the various options and let the BOD know your feelings.  

In order to relay your ideas and recommendations to the BOD, a message board with polling questions has been created.  Please take the time to register yourself (if you already haven’t done so) and take the polls. Registration is simple, harmless, and usually you will be confirmed within 24-48 hrs of signing up. The link to the polls are at the bottom of this page.  

Please note that this is an unscientific poll that has been created to give the BOD  a general idea as to the members feelings towards expansion/movement of the club.

Land Acquisition

·        Background

o       In 2006, membership recognized the need for a land fund and voted to increase dues by $25 per member per year.

o       Land fund now has $95K, which includes $36K from lead mining.

o       $25 dues increase raised $59K over four years and is insufficient to keep up with inflation, rising land prices, etc.

o       Land to the north and south of the club is not for sale.

o       Land (116 acres) to the west may be for sale, price unknown.

o       Any land of sufficient acreage is estimated to cost between $500K and $750K.

• $500K at 6.5% for 10 years would require $5600 per month.
• $750K at 6.5% for 10 years would require $8500 per month.

·        Benefits

o       Buffer against encroachment.

• Denton is now annexing 19,000 acres NW of the city.
• Two local ranges were closed in the past few years (Back Woods and Collin County) because of encroachment.

o       Room for additional facilities such as Five Stand, Sporting Clays, 400 yard rifle range, etc.

o       Ensure that NTSA facilities will be available and meet needs well into the future.

    How to pay for additional land?

        o       Dues Increase:

• Fairest method to raise funds from the membership.
• Shared equitably by all members, including future members.
• May cause initial loss of membership

o       Amount – Currently, NTSA receives $125 annually per member for club operating expenses and $25 annually for the land fund.  If the dues are increased to:

• $200 annually, $125 would go towards operating expenses and $75 for the land fund.  This amount would be insufficient to make monthly payments on a $500K loan, if a deal is made.
• $250 annually, $150 would go towards operating expenses and $100 for the land fund.  This amount would be sufficient to make monthly payments on a $500K loan.
• $300 annually, $150 would go towards operating expenses and $150 for the land fund.  This amount would be sufficient to make monthly payments on a $750K loan, or on a $500 K loan, provide funds for new land development.  If dues are raised to $300 annually, this would mean that each member pays $25 per month instead of $12.50.  This is less than a brick of .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.
• No dues increase.

o       Assessment

• Least fair method of raising funds because it impacts current members and does not impact future members even if initiation fee is raised.
• May cause hardship to some members due to economic conditions.
• May need to be held in reserve to raise funds for an emergency.
• A one-time assessment will not make raise enough funds for monthly land payments.

 o       Amount of assessment?

• $300 – will raise $180K if all members pay.
• $350 – will raise $210K if all members pay.
• $400 – will raise $240K if all members pay.
• No assessment.
•  

o       Membership increase – Current membership is 600 and the club is under utilized.  However, raising the cap at some point will increase operating expenses and will require additional range personnel.

• Raise cap to 700
• Raise cap to 800
• Raise cap to 900
• Raise cap to 1000
• No raise of membership cap.

o       Daily range fee – Members currently pay $3 range use fee.

• If dues are raised, should the daily range fee for members be discontinued?
• If dues are raised, should the daily range fee for members be reduced?

o       Daily Non-member range fees – Non-members currently pay $10 per day plus the $3 range fee, or a total of $13.

• Increase non-member fees to $12 plus $3, or $15.
• No change to daily range fee.
